Dr. Elke Spielmanns-Rome
Independent Expert and Reviewer for Internationalisation & Quality Assurance
Dr. Spielmanns-Rome studied Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, Translation Studies and CApplied Linguistics at universities in Frankfurt, Bonn, Düsseldorf and Taipei. She has many years of professional experience in both the university and non-university sectors, as well as in various cultural areas, and has established an extensive international network of expertise. From 1980 to 1984, she worked for international tourism companies. From 1988 to 1996, she worked at the University of Bonn. During this period, she managed the editorial office of a sinological journal and a linguistic research project at the Seminar for Oriental Languages. She then worked for various media companies, focusing on analysing and optimising communication and production processes, as well as quality management.
Since 2004, Dr. Spielmanns-Rome has worked as a freelance academic consultant, reviewer and trainer in the international higher education and research sector. Her work focuses on intercultural training and workshops to strengthen China competences at German universities, as well as the evaluation of international scientific exchange and university programmes.
Since 2013, she has regularly conducted intercultural trainings. Since 2023, she has been a lecturer at the Center for Cultural Studies on Science and Technology in China (CCST) at TU Berlin. Since February 2024, she has been one of the China experts at the China Competence Training Centre (CCTC) at HU Berlin.
